Pound Lane, Thorpe St Andrew
Sainsburys
This land used to be a gravel pit and rifle range before Sainsburys was there there used to be a rifle range there. Roger Symes says "It was the range of Thorpe and District Small Bore Rifle Club. it had 100yard, 50yard and 25yard rifle ranges and a 20yard pistol range, all for 0.22 calibre. I shot there in the mid 1960s for the Gothic Rifle Club, (part of the Laurence Scott and Electromotors social club) who rented the range one evening a week. it closed soon after I assume because of the Sainsbury development." Credit Thorpe History Group.
Tescos was originally trying to get this site but Sainsburys got it in the end.
