1 Heigham Street - Ray Freemans Cycles
The store started in St Benedicts Street in 1896 as Kirby's Cycles, which was owned by Mr Freeman's mother's family.
In the late 1950s, Richard's father, Ray Freeman, decided to break away and start Freeman Cycles. Richard took over completely in the 1990s, with various family and friends working for him over the years. The store closed in 2021 after 125 years in business.

Also Peruzzi's ice cream factory was there until 1957 then they decided to open the recycling yard next to our house Derby Street.
The ice cream was sold as a back-u to Walls ice cream at Waterloo Park Pavilion Cafe in the very early 1950`s. Betty delivered it to us in the Peruzzi large cream and blue painted van, which was a close take-off of the similar Wall`s delivery vehicles!
The family lived at 70-72 and I also remember talking to Joe when he was sitting/laying on his settee at 70-72 Derby Street, their family home, the factory being at 99 Heigham Street. I also remember the Peruzzi brothers and sisters. For a much better copy of the not well presented advert which I have attached, please see the 1952 edition of `Kelly`s Norwich Directory.
